Belgrade Protesters Urge Serbia to Exit Eurovision Over Israel

(MENAFN) Demonstrators gathered in Belgrade on Tuesday outside the headquarters of Serbian public broadcaster Radio Television of Serbia (RTS), demanding the country withdraw from the Eurovision Song Contest in protest of Israel's continued participation.

The protesters, assembled directly in front of RTS's main offices, argued that Serbia's presence at the competition would effectively signal endorsement of Israel's military conduct toward Palestinians. Waving Palestinian flags throughout the demonstration, the group pressed Serbian officials to pull out of the contest entirely and urged RTS to formally cancel its entry.

In an official written statement, protest organizers demanded that rather than sending a representative to Eurovision, RTS should redirect its airtime toward coverage dedicated to Palestine.

Serbia is not alone in facing such pressure. Slovenia, Spain, the Netherlands, Ireland, and Iceland have each already confirmed their withdrawal from the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest following Israel's inclusion in the lineup — a growing wave of boycotts that continues to reshape the competition's political landscape ahead of next year's event.
